Our first order of business this morning was to decide whether to give back the car or not depending on the weather for the next few days. We decided to keep it and go to Capri today, drive the Amalfi Coast tomorrow so that we can sit back and relax in Positano.
The ferry over to Capri is of course at the bottom of the town, and true to form every where we have been, lots of walking down a steep road.
We decided to rent a scooter to get around after we found out that the Blue Grotto was closed because of high tides and rough seas. Sure enough when we did get there to see it, we couldn’t even see the entrance into the grotto.
I had a very tough decision to make about whether to drive my own scooter or ride with Rick. I really wanted to have my own and go along these crazy windy roads, but unfortunately when we got into Capri, I saw the road at the top of the cliff, and just couldn’t fathom driving the road….on a scooter….around a cliff like that. I was sure I would just panic and drive right off the edge. So, I was Rick’s pylon. And let me tell you, we worked that little scooter hard. Poor thing. I felt it’s pain trying to get us around the island.
While our day was cut a little short by not going to the grotto, we had a great time on the scooter. Driving here is something to experience, and being a passenger on a scooter is just as nerve racking. We would pass by buses going the opposite direction, that I’m sure were inches from touching my knee. Their driving is amazing really.
We had a great day on Capri, and I am glad we went. The ferry ride was very fun, and the bus ride back up to the main piazza was almost as scary as anything I have been on to date.
We are out for supper to the restaurant we were at last night, and I’m craving spaghetti and some kind of seafood. Also, these fantastic people, bottle their sparkling wine in 1/2 litre bottles….isn’t that just the best thing ever….so now I’m just on sparkling! Fabulous!

Leaving Sorrento for Capri.
Sorrento
From the ferry.
Me on the ferry, which is called a jet boat.
On our scooter drive around the island. It was a lighthouse station.
This rock freaked us out a it looks like a face looking at you. Look at the eyes, they have stalagmites hanging from them.
Walking down to the Blue Grotto which was closed because of high tides and rough seas.
Our scooter….which had a rough time taking us up all the steep inclines…because Rick was almost bigger than it.
A view from the road which is literally the road and a railing and the cliff.
Us on the scooter.
Another view from the high road.
Our lunch spot. Had calamari and fried shrimp and a pizza. Great spot.
Our view at lunch. We wanted the roof top section and the owner thought we were crazy because it was so cold….not so when you are Canadian!
This picture shows the high road we were on, in the top 1/3 of the picture on the left.
Arriving back in Sorrento.
Love all the pictures..I’m surprised you were on those cliffs at all let alone on a little scooter…Yikes!!
