We left Assisi this morning with the intention of stopping in another 5 towns on our way to the farmhouse, but, as awful as this is to say, the towns with their fortresses and churches all start to look similiar. The little shops offer a lot of the same touristy crap that I don’t like, not to mention the real reason for not stopping, the steep climbs up to each piazza. It is always worth the view, but today, I want to get to the farmhouse.
We are not disappointed. We get in around 4:00, and immediately grab a glass of wine (we bought a 3l box in Chianti for about $12), and head out onto the grounds. It is an organic farm, however we can’t see the actual working part of it, it may be that we didn’t go far enough. No worry, we just wander, sit, lay in the sun, and relax. Have more wine. It’s all good.
The house has 2 living rooms for people to gather, and this is also where the internet is, so we come down with full intentions of doing the blog, but get caught up in conversation. It is so interesting to hear peoples stories, 2 retired women travelling from Australia so far have been on the road for 3 months. They are so funny to listen to. Both from a teaching background and when we mention we have just survived teenage kids…they relay some funny stories.
The hosts graciously give us wine until dinner. Our dinner is served at 8:00 and they serve it family style. This dinner is another in the running for best dinner. It may even come out on top.
We have crostini with 3 different spreads; tomato, eggplant, and radicchio, grilled jalapeno peppers (not hot just flavorful), and that is our appetizer. Our primi patti is a shell pasta with a fantastic cheese sauce. The main dish is a beef with sauce and mashed potatoes.
We enjoy a nightcap of limoncello with the people at the table, and they are all great company. It is a great evening. I love this, and could stay and relax a few more days.

Our dinner companion in Assisi.
Our other dinner companion, they were right behind our table. Creepy.
Scenery at the top of the mountain, it’s the tree line, and we could here the cowbells.
Another view of the tree line.
A bunch of nuns having a snack on their long climb up to this convent.
Another random castle fortress, everywhere you turn there is another one.
In a town called Montepulciano on our drive to our farmhouse in Orvieto.
Pecorino cheese, we had samples so yummy.
Up in a tiny wine museum, barrels.
More pecorino cheese, that we couldn’t bring back.
Me on the steps of an old church.
View from the top in Montepulciano.
More roof top views.
An olive grove, they are everywhere.
A very run down house….I want to revive it!
Our bed in at our farmhouse….we had the dog room…go figure.
The dog on our doorway instead of a number, it was also our key chain.
Outside the farmhouse.
A trellis walkway in the back yard that leads to the pool area.
Tables for eating outside covered in English ivy.
A chestnut….the spikes on the outside are so sharp.
Her is the nut on the inside.
I love this picture. We relaxed like this for a few hours after we got there.
Another view from the back of the house.
This is the front of the house.

A flower…so pretty.

Our very tired feet.
The table we had dinner at, family style with the rest of the guests.
Love the new red scarf/shawl…Retirement plan…We buy a fix the old house, I’ll set up a quit shop and you sell and drink wine. Is there a golf course close by for Rick and Gene?
I am totally into this plan. Believe me, if this place had a little shop of some kind…perhaps a quilt shop….it would be so quaint. Rick needs somewhere to ride motorcycles….golf i not his game…..
