Siena Day 11

I’m not sure what I like best about Siena, the fact that we took a day to relax, or that we really liked it.  Our hotel was a pleasant surprise with a fair sized room, and a nice bathroom.   The garden was the best thing.

After a great breakfast in the garden room, we took a walk around Old Siena.  We went to the different museums, basillicas, and the tower that Rick went up.  Now the tower and “panorama”view was a story in itself.  As we approached it there were 2 old men sitting there and I’m sure the only english they knew were these instructions….Panorama view…1o minutes…then exit…they did however read the horror on my face….and as Rick and I entered I made a point of saying I might be back….this they understood.

We entered into this small staircase that really fit only one person and after a few minutes of climbing, the fear hit me, so Rick carried on and my scene played out like this.  I went up a few steps and back a few steps and literally talking to myself out loud about how this tower wasn’t going to suddenly collapase because I was now in it.  However, fear eventually overcame me, and I appeared to the 2 men at the front entrance.  We had a good laugh, and I took my place at what I affectionately called the “failure chairs”.  I waited patiently for Rick to come back…which…suprisingly…he did, safe and sound.

The best part of the day for me was taking a sandwich back to our hotel and eating it and having a bottle of wine in the garden.  Under the Tuscan Sun.   After we had lunch, we took a nap….imagine…a real nap…under covers….in the middle of the afternoon.  Fabulous.  All and all a relaxing day in Siena.
