Florence Day 5

I missed posting last night due to a little too much wine consumption. Every time we sit down to eat we share a ½ litre of red wine, and we commented that it doesn’t seem to go to our head. Last night, I switched it up because Rick had a beer, so I had white wine….2 glasses…not a lot, we all no I‘m not an amateur. However, by the time we got up to leave, I was definitely feeling the effects, even the waiter gave Rick a little look…lucky boy! I was wondering if he slipped something in my wine just to get a laugh from a tourist! So I stumbled around the piazzas holding very tight to my escort. Funny for sure.  I found out after that my 2 glasses of wine probably equaled 1 bottle, so I didn’t feel so bad after.

Ok, so Florence. We had reservations at both the Uffizi and Academia Galleries. The lines for both of these museums were incredibly long. Our first stop was the Uffizi gallery, and we get into the reservation line without tickets, and a lovely man ahead of us said we had to go to the front of another line, see a man with glasses, and wave our papers in front of him, and he would give us our tickets. So, that’s exactly what I did. We did the same at the Academia gallery, papers waving.

The galleries were beautiful, with mostly religious artifacts and paintings. About half way through, my attention got a little worn as I was sure I was seeing the same paintings time after time. I guess it does what it’s supposed to and really makes you appreciate that art can last 600 years or more. Highlight of course was the Statue of David. Mama Mia! What an incredibly beautiful man he would be.

We wandered around Florence the rest of the time, taking in the many markets in the piazzas, having wine and snacks. Fantastic, but I have to say, so far I enjoyed Rome the best. I liked the food better there as well, I think more selection. The prices here are also a little higher than Rome.

Rick decided to head up the Tower to take in the views over the city. I decided to stay put and sit in the piazza….in my comfort zone. All in all, a great time spent in Florence.

    1. So, I have some clarification about the size of the glasses of wine….dad figures between the 2 glasses….I had almost a bottle myself…so…at least I’m a little justified.
