I forgot to mention a few things about our drive yesterday. The roads were unbelievable. Very curvy and perfect for motorcycling..even I thought that. Rick thought it would have to be the perfect ride, and I had to agree.
We passed 2 different tour groups, one was a group of about 6 red Ferraris….and the next a group of motorcyclists. We will certainly come back and drive this road….or Rick will take the road, and I will take a cooking class!
OK, so Assisi. We had a bit of a slow start leaving Cortona, but the drive was very nice. It didn’t have the wow factor of yesterday, just a mellower road. We did stop in a few different towns, and the feeling here is more medievel. We saw that the medieval theme started in Siena, and it was continuing here. In fact in one town, their shops sold all kinds of fighting gear, knight fighting gear, those balls with spikes etc. On the outskirts of town there was a big store that had all kinds of knight armour etc., for sale. It really has a different feel.
We wandered around Assisi after finding our way to our hotel. We parked the car in a parking lot outside of the actual town, which is the picture with the fortress walls, and we walked in to our hotel. We then were given instructions to drive in to drop our back packs and then park at another lot. It is very intimidating because you enter a restricted zone and it is full of one ways, and lots of street signs that we don’t understand.
Anyways, we made it, and Assisi is beautiful. Lots of priests and nuns roaming around here as well, and there are some very significant religious landmarks here. Coming here I wish I had read the bible so I had some idea what all these things meant. Religious or not, it is a very impressive place. One thing we can mention is that we are woken up every morning, in all places, to bells ringing at all different times, and I’m really getting used to it and liking it.
We aren’t sure if we will have interent tomorrow or not. We are off on another drive that will take us by a lake and through some wine country. We stop in Orvieto, and are staying at an agritourism farmhouse.

Another Panda picture with a view.
This is the view Rick got after taking the Panda picture. Sometimes, even I don’t look perfect!
A nicer view than the last.
A building that we weren’t sure if they were plastering it up or taking it off.
On the right is a moat in a Medievel town called Gubbio.
A street in Gubbio.
This is driving up to Assisi. It is surrounded by this fortress wall.
A street in Assisi.
A church which was amazing inside, very detailed.
The largest of the three rose windows.
A cute little archway and alley.
Me sitting on more steps.
View from our hotel room.
Ok I just got caught up, I was 3 days and 5 towns behind and It is a good thing your doing this blog because I think you will be amazed at what all you saw and all the places you have been. I just told Gene that after a long trip like this you would get home and not remember a thing or wonder what you did and now you will remember all kinds of things that you would normally purge just because it’s all too much information..I cant wait to see the farmhouse and where you will stay..
